We don’t just offer hot classes at our studio!
We’re delighted to be introducing pre & post-natal yoga (including baby) from September 2019…all classes will be non-heated!
Practising yoga during and after pregnancy has many benefits and is an excellent and safe way to stay active, healthy and grounded during your pregnancy. Self-care is paramount during pregnancy so these classes dedicate some much needed time out to focus on you.
During pregnancy the body goes through significant physical changes to prepare for the delivery of your baby. These yoga classes will help to ease aches and pains and will incorporate various poses, relaxation and breathing techniques to help prepare you for the birth of your baby and beyond.
Pregnancy is not the time to start any excessively demanding new exercises so expect these yoga classes to be more gentle and focused towards relaxation…this is your ‘you’ time before baby arrives…however don’t be a little surprised if we work a little harder in some classes! We also want to build strength needed for labour.
All classes are non-heated, mats, blocks, bolsters and straps are provided. You may wish to bring a blanket and warm clothing with you for the relaxation at the beginning and end of class.
Prenatal yoga helps you to connect with your baby and your body by adopting breathing and relaxation techniques which will also help during childbirth. Classes will encourage physical stretching to create space within your body as baby grows and will help to centre and calm the breath and mind. As you progress through each trimester of your pregnancy your prenatal classes may change and vary to cater for the changes in your body and promote a safe, beneficial practice. Your teacher will provide modifications and adjustments needed to make sure you are as comfortable as possible as your pregnancy progresses. As you move closer to your due date there may not be as much movement but making the time to come and focus on breathing and relaxation is just as important.
Prenatal yoga can help to:
- Improve your sleep
- Reduce stress & anxiety
- Increase strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth, such as the pelvic floor
- Decrease lower back pain, nausea, headaches and shortness of breath
- Meet other expecting mums to build your support community
Prenatal classes will run on Friday evenings from 6-7pm and commence on 20th September
Maintaining your yoga practice may be even more important than prenatal yoga, for both physical and emotional reasons. Once baby arrives it can feel like your world has been turned upside down so it’s vital to make time for you, to remain connected with other mums and heal your body. As soon as your doctor has given you the go ahead to return to exercise we will welcome you and your new arrival back to class with open arms!
Postnatal classes welcome your baby until they reach crawling stage and they can get involved in the classes and join you on your mat or beside you. Please be prepared that some classes may not go to plan if the babies are having a troublesome day! Nevertheless, getting out of the house and socialising with other new mums is very important.
Postnatal yoga can help to:
- Strengthen and re-align the spine
- Strengthen and re-join abdominal muscles that can become separated during pregnancy (diastasis recti)
- Restore whole body strength, stamina and flexibility to manage daily tasks such as picking up, holding and feeding your baby
- Relieve hip, back & shoulder pain
- Provide time to relax, breathe, rest & re-energise
- Reduce or avoid post-natal depression
- Connect with your baby
Postnatal classes will run on Wednesday afternoons from 1-2pm and commence on 18th September
